Institute of Molecular Cancer Research Weber Lab

Research

In our research group, we aim to address pathology-relevant topics by integrating morphological and molecular analyses. These include basic as well as clinico-pathologic questions, with our main interest being diseases of the liver and gastrointestinal tract, in particular tumors of these organ systems. The dual affiliation of our research group to the Department of Pathology and Molecular Pathology at the University Hospital Zurich and the IMCR at UZH provides us with a unique combination of expertise and resources. It allows us to study the molecular changes, especially of the early stages of cancer development, both in preclinical models and in human tissue.

  • liver_histology

    Cell death driven tumorigenesis

Liver histology of a mouse deficient for MCL1 with concomitant increased levels of apoptotic liver cell death (apoptotic hepatocytes, arrow heads) and regeneration (hepatocyte mitosis, dotted circle), histologic hallmarks of both, MCL1 deficient mice and human chronic liver diseases.

  • Liver_cancer

    Liver cancer

Representative histological images (H&E staining) showing liver pathology observed in MCL1 deficient hepatocytes.
